Sea Kittens?
PETA, in an effort to safe fish across our planet’s oceans, has started a re-branding effort by changing the name of our aquatic neighbors — now referring to them exclusively as “Sea Kittens.”
Wow PETA, good work.
instead of promoting the ethical treatment of animals, you have started the dumbest crusade ever (I’m not saying anything bad about fish, but you guys are really reaching here). I wonder what the world’s scientists think of this, or anyone with half a brain.
PETA’s argument for the renaming is that the name fish has such bad connotations, i.e. they are slimy, scaly and “have eyes on either side of their pointy little heads.” The truth is, these features are what gave the word it’s meaning.
In turn, I believe if we rename fish, “Sea Kittens,” then we will all change our perspective towards cats and start eating then from the can with mayonnaise (not to mention, how will the poultry PR people feel when they loose the “chicken of the sea” account to the feline group).
However, on the campaign website they had this great little interactive piece which I couldn’t resist playing with, so here is my contribution to Sea Kitten-kind.
